Kogan Page is the leading independent global publisher of business books and content with more than 1000 titles in print. Here Natasha Tulett, Marketing Executive, explains the benefits to the business of exhibiting at Marketing Week Live.

How did you hear about Marketing Week Live?

As subscribers of Marketing Week, this was an event that had been on our radar for some time. After receiving some email marketing about the show, we decided to attend for 2018. The speaker line-up (including one of our authors) and the different topics being covered were particularly relevant to us, so it seemed like a great way to ensure our most topical books reached a very targeted audience of marketers. This was the first time we had exhibited, and luckily, we were right to do so!

What were your three main goals from exhibiting at Marketing Week Live?

Part of our strategy of the year for our marketing list of books was to raise brand awareness within the marketing arena, so attending more high-profile industry events was a big part of that. Showcasing our products and services, and encouraging sales, were our other ultimate goals.

How did you find Marketing Week Live and the visitors who attended?

The show was really busy, the busiest conference we have been to so far. It had a great audience of mixed-level, engaged and interested marketers from a diverse range of industries and sectors. That was what we had hoped for.

We found it really beneficial for showcasing our books to a key target audience and encouraging sales and relationship leads. We also had one of our authors, Jon Mowat, hosting a keynote at the event, so it was a great opportunity to promote his new book alongside it.

Our stand was more of a pop-up book shop, so having meetings wasn’t really the style or set-up of our presence there. We did have a lot of valuable conversations with people coming to the stand though and definitely met everyone we hoped to. Based on the success of 2018, we have decided to return to Marketing Week Live next year.

What was the one key success from being at Marketing Week Live that stands out to you?

It was probably the number of books we were able to sell – not purely from a sales value perspective - because it was also really insightful and promising to see how many people were interested in the topics of our books and how engaged they were with the content. We also sold out of Jon Mowat’s new book ‘Video Marketing Strategy’ and it was great to see him interacting with customers and signing copies.

Nimlok delivers ‘engaging exhibition stands’. Here Melanie Wills, Marketing Manager, explains the benefits to the business of exhibiting at Marketing Week Live.

How did you hear about Marketing Week Live?

We were originally approached by Centaur, who made a convincing pitch as to why it would be worth exhibiting. Throughout our 50-year history, we have always found shows a valuable source of new leads. We return each year to Marketing Week Live as we feel it brings forth a broad mix of marketers who are keen to hone their skills by learning from quality suppliers. They are the right calibre of contacts for us to secure follow-up meetings with.

What were your three main goals from exhibiting at Marketing Week Live?

It always amazes us that only a handful of exhibition stand and build contractors in the UK ‘walk the walk’ and exhibit themselves. As a customer, why you would put your trust (and precious marketing budget) with someone without first-hand experience of how to get the best out of exhibiting?

Our main goal was to practice what we preach by demonstrating how to exhibit and engage your audience at a show to maximum effect and this translated into our second goal of lead generation.

Our third goal was to learn from our own experiences and to test new ideas to help us advise our clients. It is a prerequisite of the job that we insist all Nimlok’s consultants have to talk from first-hand exhibiting experience.

How did you find Marketing Week Live and the people who attended?

MWL has provided a consistent ROI from converted new sales within a year of attending, without factoring the other benefits such us growing our database and acquiring new advocates where there may not be such an immediate opportunity.
We had three to four meetings pre-arranged, but we consistently secure 30-40 confirmed follow-up meetings with new prospects from the show.

Visitors to MWL are always an interesting cross-section of marketers from various industries and generally the right level to commit to next steps.

We will be at the next Marketing Week Live, ready to help the next lot of attendees get better results.

What was the one success from your being at Marketing Week Live that stands out to you?

It is the ROI from converted new sales and our intention will be to rebook and return with an exciting new exhibiting campaign in 2019.
